Renowned German performer Udo Kier has passed away at the age of 81. The information was verified by Kier’s companion Delbert McBride through Variety.

With countless film and television credits spanning many years, Kier gained notoriety in horror cinema such as Mark of the Devil, Flesh for Frankenstein, and Blood for Dracula during the ’70s. His significant Hollywood role arrived in 1991’s My Own Private Idaho, and he would later feature in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Johnny Mnemonic, Armageddon, and music videos by Madonna.

In recent times, Kier was among the actors slated to feature in Hideo Kojima’s forthcoming horror game OD. Game director Hideo Kojima expressed online that new segments with the actor were planned for filming in 2026, and that he’d maintained regular communication with him.

“I’m at a loss for words,” Kojima stated in a social media update. “This all occurred far too abruptly. Due to the strike, we couldn’t film OD for an extended period, and we had to postpone until next year. Even during this time, Udo and I frequently exchanged emails. We remained in close touch. When we met in Milan at the end of September, he shared how eager he was for the shoot to commence again next year.”

Kier was famous for portraying the iconic Command & Conquer antagonist Yuri in the live-action cutscenes for Red Alert 2 and its expansion, Yuri’s Revenge. He also contributed his unique voice to characters in the games Call of Duty: WWII and Martha is Dead.
