Ecco The Dolphin has remained dormant for 25 years, with the latest installment, Defender Of The Future, released in June 2000. Now, Ecco is not only making a comeback with the original development crew back on board, but there are also three additional projects underway—two remasters and an entirely new adventure.
In a conversation on Xbox Wire, the creator of Ecco, Ed Annunziata, revealed that remasters of both the original Ecco The Dolphin and The Tides Of Time, which debuted on the Sega Genesis in 1992 and 1994, respectively, are in the pipeline. He also confirmed “a new, third game featuring modern gameplay and GPU advancements,” although no further specifics were disclosed.

A countdown timer has appeared at eccothedolphin.com, which, as of this moment, will conclude in 8,525 hours—or 355 days and 10 hours, translating to April 26, 2026, at midnight ET.
The inaugural Ecco The Dolphin game debuted for the Sega Genesis in December 1992. Its sequel, Ecco: The Tides Of Time, was released on the Genesis in November 1994, while the most recent entry, Ecco The Dolphin: Defender Of The Future, launched on Dreamcast on August 15, 2000.
