Critical Role is among the programs that shaped the actual play tabletop RPG podcast, and now the cherished D&D campaign is set to return to animation in an Amazon Prime series named after the second season of the podcast’s main adventuring group, The Mighty Nein. The initial trailer for the series has now arrived.

As evident in the trailer, the motley crew of unexpected champions must enhance their skills as they endeavor to prevent the misuse of a relic known as “the Beacon” from falling into the hands of the show’s main antagonist.
“They are still navigating this whole ‘rescuing the realm’ situation,” states the official summary of The Mighty Nein animated series. “The Mighty Nein follows a band of outlaws and misfits, connected by secrets and wounds. Yet when a formidable magical artifact called ‘The Beacon’ slips into perilous hands, they must collaborate to save the realm and halt reality from disintegrating.”
Critical Role was initiated all the way back in 2015, emerging from a private D&D session led by voice actor Matthew Mercer along with a coalition of seven players who are also performers, many of whom have alternated in and out throughout the show’s various campaigns, with additional guest stars also taking part.
The series has extended into multiple ventures, including a prior Amazon Prime animated show titled The Legend of Vox Machina, which was based on the initial Critical Role campaign and ran for three seasons.
The Mighty Nein debuts on November 19 on Amazon Prime. In the meantime, check out the 25 top shows you can enjoy on Amazon Prime Video currently.
