Ah, Bungie. Perpetually, the Destiny 2 creator astonishes Guardians worldwide by subtly introducing a mission or quietly embedding secrets within the game. This time, the Barrow Dyad Exotic mission has appeared in the game following the weekly reset, without any prior notice.

Fortunately, we’ve discovered simple methods to locate the new Derealize Exotic mission, straightforward steps to initiate it, and we provide a detailed guide on how you can lay your hands on the unique-looking SMG.

Nether Blights

If you have been engaging with Destiny 2 Episode Heresy already, you will likely recognize the Nether activity. Previously, we assumed you’d have to reload it until you appeared at the Trenchway or the Corridor of Souls, but it seems you can initiate the Exotic quest from any landing zone in the Nether; you just might have to engage in a bit more searching prior to triggering the quest steps. If you find the Blight isn’t in the mentioned areas from our guide, you will need to close and reload the activity, as it seems to depend on RNG whether it spawns or not.

The concealed route to the Blight.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the Taken Blight. Follow some concealed platforms, jump into it, and after you teleport, look for a plate on the ground. If you are having difficulty finding the path, pull out your Ghost and the platforms will briefly reveal themselves.

The Corridor of Souls

To locate the Blight in the Corridor of Souls, rush to the central platform where this area’s boss usually spawns. Proceed through the corridor with the statues until you face the King’s Drop raid entrance area known as the Corridor of the Statues. Avoid crossing the bridge; instead, look up and to the right attached to the large pillar. It should appear similar to our image above. If it’s not present, close and reload the activity.

The Trenchways

The Blight in the Trenchways is the easiest to find. From the spawn location, head straight toward the Tormentor that is performing the ritual near the columns. You should be able to start looking for the Blight almost immediately after spawning, as it is located on a pillar with invisible platforms leading the way.

The Mausoleum

Upon spawning in the Mausoleum, turn around and jump across the platforms to the next level. The Blight will likely be near the wall. In our experience, this is the Blight that spawns the least frequently, so we might suggest simply reloading the activity if you find yourself in the Mausoleum.

Symbols and Fragments

You might then notice a symbol along with a message appearing on your HUD in the lower left corner. In our case, it read “Something whispers to the right…” Step off the plate in the direction indicated by this message, and you will be teleported out. You might find a Taken Osseous Fragment in a stone bowl – collect it.

Scotopic Rune

Next, make your way to the Slab inside Eris’s Hideout in the Lost City and obtain and activate the Scotopic Rune enhancement. This is a tier three Runic Enhancement. After activating it, you will be given The Taken Path quest, which instructs you to find something the Hive has concealed in Sorrow’s Harbor.

Lost Sector Blights

Travel to the K1 Revelation Lost Sector in Sorrow’s Harbor. There, you will see a Blight leading to a plate, similar to the one from the Nether. Again, pay attention to the symbol, follow its direction, and eliminate the Taken that spawn before collecting the fragment. Repeat this process in the Forgotten Shore Lost Sector, Veles Labyrinth. The Blight will be found within the maze area.

Curse Quests

After completing the two Lost Sectors, return to the Slab in the Last City. This will trigger the beginning of three “curse” quests – the Curse of Endurance, the Curse of Urgency, and the Curse of Revenge which all need to be completed. These can be found in the Altars of Sorrow, the Hallowed Grove, and the Nightmare Hunt: Satisfaction respectively. In each location, you can collect a Taken Relic. Eliminating enemies will extend the timer displayed. Once a location opens up allowing you to do so, deposit the Taken Relic.

After doing this, you will need to return to the Nether activity once again. In every location, similar to…

In the King’s Drop raid, you will probably encounter a Hive statue that you need to interact with. This will summon a mini-boss. Once you vanquish it, another Taken Osseous Fragment will be available for you to collect. Only after completing all preceding tasks will you be able to initiate the Odd quest, titled Derealize.

Derealize Quest

The quest is relatively simple: You will likely battle some Tormentors and various Fright faction adversaries while searching for a commander. Once you reach the arena, you can repeat some of the steps needed to unlock the mission and deal with additional curses using a Taken Relic. By empowering the curse with the Relic, you can also defeat the mini-boss. Continue the process to take down the main boss and explore another area for Blights that possess symbols.

Navigate through a brief jumping puzzle to obtain the Corrupted Fragment. Afterward, tackle a more extensive jumping puzzle until you eventually confront the final boss. Derealize is a quest rich in lore, so we won’t reveal more here, but be aware if this interests you. The Barrow Dyad Odd is guaranteed to drop when you complete Derealize.

Upon finishing it once, a new quest will commence that allows you to earn intrinsic upgrades for Barrow Dyad. Note that you need to be at least rank nine on the Slab for this to be possible. You may also need to find and collect more Fragments, but these can easily be tracked down in the Nether realm.

Barrow Dyad Odd SMG

The Barrow Dyad Odd SMG is an impressive-looking weapon. Designed like a disc, it features the Apprehension Response Odd perk, which causes it to generate Blight as it inflicts damage. When not firing, Blight diminishes, and the weapon’s magazine is gradually replenished. Reloading converts stored Blight into Blighted Seekers that home in on enemies and deal substantial amounts of damage.
