Blue Prince, developed by Dogubomb and Uncooked Fury, has risen to become the highest-rated game of 2025 thus far on GameSpot’s affiliated site, Metacritic.
In Blue Prince, players traverse a manor filled with enchanting rooms. Throughout the game, they must navigate this manor, solving puzzles within each room before selecting which one to enter next. Featuring a roguelike format, the rooms within the manor reset each day and can gradually be enhanced over time based on the player’s actions. You may not have encountered Blue Prince before, as it is an indie first-person puzzle game. However, critics are praising its innovative design and showering it with accolades.
“Blue Prince is one of the most unforgettable gaming experiences I have ever had,” declared GameSpot’s Steve Watts in an outstanding review he wrote. “It is simultaneously approachable and enigmatic, exasperating and exhilarating. Just like the many variations of the Mount Holly manor house itself, it is genuinely unique.”
As of now, Blue Prince holds a score of 92 on Metacritic, positioning it as the highest-rated game of 2025. It has surpassed Split Fiction, which currently stands with an aggregate score of 91. Monster Hunter Wilds, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, and The Roottrees are Tiring complete Metacritic’s top five best-reviewed games of the year so far. This places Blue Prince among some distinguished company and indicates it could become this year’s indie favorite, much like Balatro did last year.
Blue Prince has not yet been released, and if you are a Game Pass subscriber, you may not even need to pay for it upon its launch. It is set to be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on April 10, and it will also be included in the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library.
