Whenever you consider Mario Kart World‘s $80 price tag became significantly high, I truly hope you aren’t someone who plans to acquire The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the first time on Switch 2, since the full set, including DLC, will set you back $90.

Following last week’s Nintendo Switch 2 announcement, there has been considerable reaction regarding the pricing of the new console and its games. The costs of the Switch 2 Edition versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom have already raised eyebrows, priced at $70 and $80, respectively, assuming you don’t already own the originals. It should also be noted that the enhancements cost an additional $10 each, resulting in the total Switch 2 Edition price being equivalent to this amount plus the full retail price of the original Switch 1 game (you can obtain the upgrades free of charge if you are subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service).

While the pricing becomes clearer when dissected in this manner, it is still a substantial amount of money for anyone who missed the games during their initial release, especially considering that Breath of the Wild is over eight years old at this point (though as we know, Nintendo games rarely go on sale for any significant discounts). Adding to this complexity, Nintendo has confirmed in a statement to IGN that the Switch 2 Edition of Breath of the Wild will not include the Expansion Pass DLC, which adds more shrines and features like the Master Cycle and additional Master Mode to the game.

“The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition does not include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass DLC. That DLC is available as a separate purchase,” Nintendo mentions.

At full retail, that “separate purchase” will increase the total for all the Breath of the Wild content, raising your overall expenditure to $90. As IGN points out, no one buying the game in this manner will be spending any less than those who bought the original, yet at the same time, they’re not going to be paying any less, even eight years later.

Despite this being a considerable purchase, with the recently improved frame rate and HDR support, it seems that this Switch 2 Edition will indeed be the best way to experience the game if you haven’t done so before.
