By We were already aware that Fortnite Blitz Royale will remain available beyond its previously disclosed expiration date, but it seems this extension will also introduce significant modifications. For instance, commencing next week, the compact Blitz island will become the new location of Mega City, the urban area filled with skyscrapers that was located at the heart of Fortnite’s Battle Royale island for a majority of Chapter 4. Blitz Royale’s inaugural major update is set for July 15. Mega City will reportedly occupy the area currently occupied by Retail Row.
So Epic isn’t merely prolonging Blitz Royale as it stands–rather, it’s proceeding with a fresh assortment of themed loot pools, while maintaining a focus on collaborative items, such as this week’s TMNT melee-battle. Although the teaser refers to the collaborations as a “secret,” insiders suggest that three of the weeks will focus on Jujutsu Kaisen, Dragon Ball, and Mortal Kombat. Blitz will clearly integrate other weapons from standard Battle Royale as well, including the gloves that launch birds introduced earlier this season.
Blitz Royale, prioritizing swift matchmaking and crafting an experience that’s appealing for mobile gamers, was an immediate success upon its launch in mid-June, briefly becoming Fortnite’s most sought-after mode. Although player counts have decreased somewhat since then, Blitz still firmly holds third place behind Battle Royale/Zero Build and Reload. And it’s considerably ahead of the fourth-place Fortnite OG. Therefore, it’s hardly surprising that Epic would wish to sustain Blitz Royale.
Before we explore this revamped iteration of Blitz, however—the new Superman skin, accessible on the current battle pass, will finally be obtainable starting Friday. Rumors suggest that he’s bringing along other characters from the upcoming Superman movie to the item shop, such as Mister Terrific and the Engineer.
