Stranger Things has been filled with some cherished supporting scene-stealers from the outset, with Derek Turnbow (Jake Conelly) emerging as a fan favorite this year. One cast member who truly deserves additional recognition, nonetheless, is the bespectacled and perplexed educator, Miss Harris. Coordinating the children on the military base and watching over Holly (Nell Fisher) while she converses with Mr. Whatsit, it’s been disclosed that she’s portrayed by Hope Hynes Love, who was actually the Duffer Brothers’ high school drama instructor.
Taking to Instagram, co-creator of the series, Ross Duffer, unveiled the historical link between one of the show’s latest cast members, stating, “Miss Harris is portrayed by Hope Hynes Love. She was our high school drama instructor.” He continued to commend Love for providing both him and his brother the encouragement they required to arrive where they are today. “High school was challenging for my brother and me. But Hope recognized potential in us that we didn’t acknowledge in ourselves — and she contributed to giving us the confidence to not only endure those four years but to relocate to LA and pursue our ambitions.”
Evidently, it was worthwhile, as they are now behind one of Netflix’s most significant shows in the streaming platform’s history. “Shoutout to all the educators out there making an impact,” Duffer expressed. “And please…let’s prioritize the arts in educational institutions.”
It’s a truly heartening casting decision from the Duffers, who evidently haven’t forgotten their roots. Now, to be fair, following the tumult of the cliffhanger conclusion of volume 1, we aren’t entirely certain where Miss Harris has ended up. Here’s hoping she makes a comeback before Stranger Things concludes on December 31 and doesn’t find herself facing a demogorgon assault.
