Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (25th October)
Greetings everyone, and welcome to that delightful time often referred to as ‘The Weekend’.
Before we jump into our gameplay experiences, let’s briefly summarize this week. To start with, Masahiro Sakurai showcased another hour-long Direct for Kirby Air Riders, and it was certainly a spectacle. We’ve gathered all the significant announcements in one spot, so be sure to check it out if you missed it.
Several major titles have also been confirmed for Switch 2, such as System Shock, Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. But if you’re a fan of Nintendo titles, you’ll be glad to hear that the original Luigi’s Mansion will be arriving on Nintendo Switch Online next week – hooray!

Right now, it’s all about Ball x Pit, and I’m excited that we’re getting a Switch 2 version next week with a complimentary upgrade for existing users. It’s just such an engrossing game, and I mention this as someone who never meshed well with Vampire Survivors. I can’t set it down!

This weekend, I’ll primarily be delving into Hades 2. However, since my friends keep warning me about how disappointing the conclusion is, and the forthcoming patch promises to rectify that, I might need to ease up a bit to avoid reaching the unsatisfactory ending before it gets resolved.
I’ll also be playing some titles for the awards judging that I’m involved in! And perhaps some Ball X Pit, as my friend who contributed to it sent me a code, and a bit of Regency Solitaire, because my friend who believes I should try it forwarded me a code, and possibly some Sims 4, since I’m utilizing it to design a floor plan for something I’m working on. Additionally, it’s my birthday, so… cake???

This weekend, I’m excited to dive back into 1, UFO 50: I’m back into it again, and there’s just so much – one of the most remarkable games of all time. 2, Storyteller: a game I only sampled briefly a month ago, but I really want to return, as the concept seems really intriguing! And finally maaaaybe 3, Absolum: I picked it up due to all the excitement, and might have a friend who’s going to do the same, so a 2-player online roguelike beat ’em up could be on the agenda!

It’s time to dive into Ball X Pit and potentially spend the whole weekend… probably engrossed in Ball X Pit. If my addictive tendencies kick in, then other pursuits will likely get sidelined.
Though since I’ve mostly finished Pokémon Legends: Z-A (until the DLC), it’s back to wrapping up Final Fantasy Tactics too. Fingers crossed. Have a great one!

This weekend I’m looking forward to spending additional time with Blippo+. It’s a wonderfully quirky experience from what I’ve encountered thus far, but I ponder how appealing it would be to audiences outside a very specific demographic.
Meanwhile, I still need to take down the final boss in Donkey Kong Bananza (I’m hoping that enhancing my Elephant Bananza will make the concluding battle smoother), I wish to revisit Star Wars Outlaws, and I’ve completed roughly 25 minutes of Final Fantasy Tactics. Lots to delve into! Enjoy your weekend, everyone.

I wrapped up the main storyline of Star Wars Outlaws last Wednesday, so my weekend will focus on tackling the extra “Pirate’s Fortune” DLC mission. I must admit to minimal progress on Hades 2 on the Olympus front, but I will strive to improve. I’ve also received new physical Switch titles this week with Earthion and Absolum getting top priority.
UFO 50 report: 40 out of 50 games played. The four games from this week are all a delight, with Valbrace being a particular standout as it addresses my only concerns with dungeon crawlers by introducing action-oriented combat. However, Rakshasa’s death gamble, Star Waspyr’s power-up feature, and the Wild West meets Final Fantasy Grimstone all rank among my favorites.
Game of the week is Alentejo: The Tinto and The Ugly. It’s quite rare for us to see a Game Boy developed title from Portugal, let alone a sequel! By the time you’re reading this, I will be covering the game’s launch event. Wish me good fortune, partner.
So, that’s what we have planned for this weekend, but what about you? Share your choices in the following poll.
