It appears that Warner Bros. is already quite content with Superman, following merely a few days in theaters.
Warner Bros. chief David Zaslav has issued an extensive statement lauding both DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.
“This weekend, we observed Superman ascend as James Gunn’s zeal and vision materialized on the large screen. Superman is merely the initial stride,” the statement concludes (H/T Variety). “In this upcoming year alone, DC Studios will premiere the films Supergirl and Clayface in theaters along with the series Lanterns on HBO Max, all part of an ambitious 10-year strategy. The DC vision is evident, the momentum is tangible, and I couldn’t be more thrilled for what lies ahead.”
Superman premiered with a solid Rotten Tomatoes rating and a comparably strong opening weekend at the box office, although it slightly lagged in international markets.
The film is the inaugural theatrical release of DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, following the animated series Creature Commandos, which debuted on HBO Max last year.
Gunn and Safran revealed numerous projects during the Chapter One slate announcement, though not all of them have significant updates thus far. One of these, The Brave and the Bold, is set to showcase the DCU’s interpretation of Batman.
“There are truly no new updates,” Gunn shared with us recently. “I mean, we are developing a script. We have a screenwriter who’s diligently working on it. I’m deeply involved, and so, you know, we shall see what unfolds next. I wish I had more information for you, but I don’t.”
