Palworld creator Pocketpair is currently engaged in a legal dispute with Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. This came after both entities lodged a lawsuit in 2024, claiming that the Palworld developer infringed on three patents. This situation has led to several modifications in the popular survival game, one of which has been reverted back to its original form by an enthusiastic fan.
Pocketpair initially altered Palworld through an update last year that eliminated the ability to summon Pals using the Poke Ball-like Pal Spheres. More recently, the game was updated to alter the gliding system, requiring players to possess a glider item rather than relying on their Pals for gliding, possibly in response to patents connected to the Ride Pokemon feature in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
Nevertheless, the Palworld community deemed this alteration unsatisfactory and decided to act. Nexus Mods user Primarinabee introduced the “Glider Restoration” mod this week (reported by IGN), allowing players to glide on the backs of their Pals once more.
The mod’s description conveys a straightforward message: “Palworld Patch 0.5.5? What? That didn’t occur!” The modder further elaborates, stating, “For those who cherish flying with your Pals, this mod cleverly reverses the previously ‘removed’ gliding feature.
“You still require a glider in your inventory, and while it’s not entirely flawless, it essentially reverts Patch 0.5.5 without forcing you to skip future game updates.”
Clearly, it’s premature to determine the outcome of the lawsuit, but we hope to reach a point where Pocketpair can officially reinstate these features, as the team was clearly unsettled about the removal, expressing: “We recognize this will disappoint many, just as it does us.”
