You should release your urge to engineer the ideal chocolate and perhaps embrace the mystery and playful nature, which might be an essential aspect of humanity that warrants further exploration.”
How this will manifest in the game remains to be seen, and Barone notes in other parts of the conversation that he is currently focusing on creating a vertical slice for Haunted Chocolatier—essentially a demo that illustrates the game’s fundamental mechanics and gameplay.
“In my game, you may create ghostly chocolates; you might produce paranormal chocolates,” Barone noted, later drawing a parallel to how he crafted his previous game. “Stardew Valley was a highly grounded experience: You’re cultivating things from the earth—these are the essentials … the foundations of human nourishment. With Haunted Chocolatier, I aimed to investigate what comes next. We have fulfilled our basic needs with Stardew Valley. Now, let’s transcend into the realm of the ethereal and the imaginative.”
Though he aims for Haunted Chocolatier to be an advancement of what he created with Stardew Valley, Barone acknowledges that ongoing support for Stardew is the primary hurdle preventing him from dedicating all his resources to the new project. “I constantly have concerns regarding Stardew Valley and ensuring its success, which diverts my attention from fully immersing myself in Haunted Chocolatier.”
