The long-awaited spiritual heir to the Star Fox franchise, which Nintendo appears to have set aside for the moment, has been re-unveiled with a new gameplay trailer.

Wild Blue was announced just this March, and it undoubtedly appears that there’s a great deal of promise here. Primarily, developer Chuhai Labs was established by Giles Goddard, one of the initial programmers on the original Star Fox for Super Nintendo. It’s puzzling why, merely eight months later, the game required a re-announcement, but Chuhai Labs and developer Humble Games have accomplished precisely that with a fresh trailer and the incorporation of the term ‘skies’ into the title.

Chuhai claims there are “numerous” biomes in Wild Blue Skies, such as “oceans, desert ridges, and treacherous caves,” and what you observe in the above video is the “treacherous” Hurricane level, which certainly appears fitting as the player character battles waves of adversaries in the center of a colossal hurricane. To be honest, I’m significantly more enthusiastic about this than I was after viewing earlier trailers, which contained shorter segments of gameplay that weren’t nearly as inspiring as this recent footage.

There is still no launch date for Wild Blue Skies, but with not a single rumor hinting at any official developments in the Star Fox universe, it’s tough to complain.
