Is it possible to have an excess of something beneficial? This is the inquiry that Square Enix is posing with regard to the Final Fantasy 7 remake series. As we approach the concluding segment, both supplementary DLC and an entirely new game are under consideration according to director Naoki Hamaguchi, for when the primary storyline is fully completed.
The initial portion of Cloud’s grand adventure to thwart Sephiroth from annihilating the planet is almost set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series S/X, with the second installment closely following. Meanwhile, the final segment is currently in the works, albeit without a specified release date.
After that? Well, nothing is firmly established, but Hamaguchi has remarked that more could indeed become feasible. “Once we launch the third chapter, there is a chance of having a DLC for that [game],” he informs wccftech.

He notes that supplementary content was envisioned as part of the Rebirth strategy, but they recognized that the primary focus should be on delivering all three titles before contemplating any additional material. If an idea is sufficiently strong for DLC, why shouldn’t it merit inclusion in the subsequent game?
The significant factor, as he perceives it, will be the cultural standing of the franchise by that time. Revisiting Final Fantasy 7 has rekindled interest from many former fans and attracted several newcomers, and Square Enix will aim to leverage this newfound attention.
“At the conclusion of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy, there is likely to be a considerably broader audience for Final Fantasy overall,” he asserts. “Whether we introduce another new DLC or a complete title, that’s something we are actively contemplating.”
Queen’s Blood is mentioned as a potential option, and Hamaguchi downplays the probability of that, while articulating that “things are indeed uncertain” at present. There have been numerous FF7 spin-offs previously, including the Vincent-centered Dirge of Cerberus. Creating further content that continues the aesthetic and narrative appeal of the remake trilogy seems logical. Yuffie and Nanaki would be straightforward choices to lead a project, but what if there was a shooter featuring Barrett? Or a side-scrolling beat-’em-up starring him and Tifa?
I’m perhaps getting ahead of myself, yet there are enticing possibilities here. It is essential to gauge the landscape post the trilogy’s finale, however. First, Cloud executes Omnislash, and then whatever follows, I’m prepared.
