Long before the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog films brought the Blue Blur to the big screen, Sega’s flagship platforming franchise was adapted for television with Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, a 65-episode animated show that premiered in 1993. The series was revived with a physical release in 2022, and right now you can grab Adventures of Sonic The Complete TV Series on Blu-ray for $36 at Amazon (was $60). This is one of the lowest prices ever for this delightful two-disc set, so nostalgic Sonic enthusiasts might want to snag it while they can.

Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog is recognized as one of the pioneering high-profile adaptations of a Sega game, capitalizing on the character’s popularity in North America. The series features Jaleel White—best known for portraying Urkel in the sitcom Family Matters—as the voice of Sonic, along with a long list of familiar sidekicks and adversaries, including Tails (Russi Taylor) and Dr. Robotnik (Long John Baldry). While later TV shows, comics, and films have expanded Sonic’s backstory even further, this show provided fans in the ’90s their initial look into the Sonic universe beyond the video games.
