Prime Day stands out as one of the premier occasions of the year for movie enthusiasts due to the multitude of Blu-rays on discount, but with the event concluding today, swift action is necessary if you’re enhancing your film collection with fresh releases. Although there are numerous critically praised films to select from, one that may prove challenging is Borderlands. Currently, Amazon presents an appealing offer on the Limited Edition steelbook case and the standard 4K version. Both of these versions include the movie on a conventional Blu-ray disc along with a digital streaming code. The live-action rendition of the acclaimed looter-shooter video game franchise wasn’t precisely up to par with recent endeavors such as HBO’s The Last of Us or The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but if you’re daring enough, you can purchase the film for yourself to discover the commotion. If you dare.
Borderlands 4K Steelbook Edition
$28.49 (originally $35)
The Borderlands film alters several aspects of the lore and characters from the games, taking place on the perilous alien world of Pandora. Featuring a largely miscast ensemble of actors, the film centers around the bounty hunter Lilith (Cate Blanchett) and her quest to locate the abducted daughter of Atlas, the CEO of one of the largest corporations in the universe.
When situations worsen, Lilith forges an unexpected alliance with Roland (Kevin Hart), Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), Patricia Tannis (Jaime Lee Curtis), and Krieg (Florian Munteanu) to seek answers and a profitable opportunity.
Truthfully, Borderlands is not a stellar film. However, it’s also not that poor as it serves as an average popcorn movie to enjoy if you wish to disengage your mind. Visually engaging, it presents vibrant colors, numerous Easter eggs to find, and includes the following supplementary features:
- Borderlands: From Game to Screen featurette
- Meet the Team featurette
- All Aboard the Death Choochoo featurette
- Bringing Borderlands to the Screen featurette
- Badonkadonk
Time featurette
- Fashion and Action on Pandora featurette
- High Tech Hellscapes featurette
The greatest aspect of the Borderlands film is that it elevates other video game interpretations significantly simply through contrast. A number of these unexpectedly and dramatically enhanced movies are also available during Prime Day, including Doom. The early 2000s adaptation of the iconic FPS franchise came too late following the original popularity of the series and too early for the contemporary version with the Doom Slayer, but it still offers an excellent action film featuring a dependable ensemble—a Rock-solid lineup, if you will. This is the latest 4K edition that reinstates a lot of the violence that was omitted from the theatrical cut and is overflowing with extras.
On the animated front, the Final Fantasy 7 sequel Advent Children remains an exhilarating return to Midgar, enhanced with new material and modifications to craft the definitive version of this ambitious movie. Five Nights at Freddy’s was also an unexpected success upon its initial launch, and as a prime illustration of how to effectively translate a video game into film, the pioneering work of the Arcane animated series is unmatched.
