By A new report indicates that numerous AA and independent studios have struggled to secure development kits for Nintendo Switch 2 prior to its launch this June.
Many game developers from AA and independent studios shared with The Game Business, expressing their concerns in a recent publication. “New console audiences usually show interest in exploring novel experiences right from the start, so we were eager to get our hands on dev kits early. Nintendo has finally reached out to us, but we still don’t expect to receive anything for several months,” a co-founder of an AA game studio informed The Game Business.
Generally, the developers contacted by The Game Business did not seem to believe that a significant increase in indie games would accompany the Switch 2 launch. They remain hopeful to learn more about the process of acquiring a Switch 2 development kit from Nintendo, now that more information about the platform is publicly available.
These remarks imply that Nintendo was particularly selective regarding which third-party studios it permitted to create games for the Switch 2 at the outset. The Switch 2 Reveal showcased several third-party launch titles, but many were AAA games from companies like From Software, CD Projekt Red, and WB Games. On the indie game side, Deltarune and Fast Fusion are currently the only indie titles confirmed for launch day.
Nintendo Switch 2 is set to hit the market on June 5. Preorders go live April 9.
