The MCU has been quite active recently, with Thunderbolts*, the debut of Marvel’s First Family in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and securing a date for Avengers: Doomsday. Now that things have settled down and following the release of additional films, Ryan Reynolds has exciting plans for Wade Wilson, sharing that he is in the process of penning a Deadpool and X-Men team-up film.

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the lead of Deadpool & Wolverine is outlining a concept to have the Merc with a Mouth unite with several mutants from the legendary superhero team, although he has yet to present this idea to the studio. This would carry on Reynolds’ pattern of steering his character away from a solo narrative, likely rekindling the triumph he experienced when pairing the character with Hugh Jackman’s Logan for their hilarious road film across different realities.

Remaining as the fifth most profitable MCU film of all time with a gross of $1.338 billion, it is easy to see why Reynolds wishes to reintroduce his character among other heroes of this universe. That’s where the perfect chaos with Deadpool emerges, though the actor behind the wisecracking hero has emphasized that finding a place within a team isn’t in the cards just yet.

Discussing Deadpool’s prospects earlier this April, Reynolds expressed he doesn’t envision Wade joining the X-Men or Avengers anytime soon and hinted at the project that has gained some newfound attention. “If Deadpool becomes part of the Avengers or X-Men, we reach the conclusion. That’s his ultimate dream, and you can’t grant him that. I’m working on a little something right now, which, I don’t know, it’s an ensemble, but I appreciate that [Deadpool] is isolated.” As we await his next return to the MCU, here’s a compilation of every forthcoming film and series from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
