Just under two weeks into its early access phase, the cooperative survival offshoot RuneScape: Dragonwilds is already experiencing a fantastic debut.

Jagex’s CEO Jon Bellamy revealed some impressive figures regarding the new game, which is set within the legendary universe of the enduring MMO RuneScape, on LinkedIn. The title has surged to the pinnacle of Steam’s best-selling lists, selling over 600,000 copies in this brief period and garnering more than 13,755 player reviews on the site, 85% of which rate it positively.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds currently holds a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam, with numerous players complimenting its more intense combat and robust base-building mechanics, often drawing comparisons to the successful survival title Valheim—this time infused with more RPG elements.

The game was also the third most-streamed title on the platform Twitch, with most gaming sessions averaging over two hours.

“The reaction from players and the RuneScape community, as well as from the industry, has surpassed even our most optimistic hopes,” Bellamy noted. “And it’s made me realize how profoundly games—and their creators—can still surprise and inspire us in unexpected ways. This is the magic of our industry. While the statistics are remarkable, my greatest pride lies in the team behind them… Your imagination and dedication are evident in every aspect of this game.”

Jagex aims to exit early access in 2026. However, as they prepare for that 1.0 release, the team recognizes that they have entered a highly competitive subgenre. Senior community manager Jake Blunt has already reassured players that the developers will concentrate on “elements that set us apart” in future updates.
