Prequel expansion appears promising

Lies of P: Overture, the forthcoming expansion to the popular Souls-like RPG, has garnered multiple hands-on reviews, and it seems like gamers are in for an enjoyable experience.

Publications largely agree that Overture is exceptional, with an eerie, snowy zoo serving as the primary backdrop for the prequel DLC, showcasing impressive level and environment design.

Nonetheless, it’s the plethora of new functionalities the DLC introduces that stand out the most, significantly enhancing the overall value of the game.

Among these, the inclusion of difficulty options is particularly intriguing; players will have the opportunity to select from two additional levels—one simpler, one more challenging—alongside the default setting. This will be included in a patch upon the launch of Overture.

Additionally, there are two new modes— a boss rush mode named Death March, which enables you to combat previous bosses under player-defined conditions, and Battle Memories, where you can reenact boss confrontations at varying difficulties.

A range of new weapon types is also being introduced, allowing for varied approaches to combat.

Here are some highlights from the recent previews:

Game Rant – “Variety of enemies is impressive”

In summary, Lies of P: Overture appears to be a promising addition, with significantly enhanced enemy variety, an impressive array of unique weapons, accessible difficulty settings, and its boss fight modes that provide substantial replayability. Just from its initial hour, Overture indicates it’s a DLC worth the two-year anticipation.

TechRadar – “One of the finest Soulslike levels I’ve ever experienced”

Altogether, Krat Zoo offered a remarkable first level for Lies of P: Overture. It demonstrates that Round8 Studio maintains its prowess in delivering creative, visually striking levels for the game. Having such a variety of new enemy types this early on bodes very well for the expansion, and I eagerly anticipate bringing some of these exciting new weapons back into the main game for New Game Plus runs.

TheGamer – “Can’t arrive soon enough”

I spent merely a couple of hours on an expansion that is estimated to last around 20, but if Lies of P: Overture maintains its quality throughout its runtime, I am confident we will see the Soulslike of the year and one of the most distinguished action games of the decade.

VGC – “Encourages the player to proceed with more caution”

A sequel to Lies of P is currently in development, and Lies of P: Overture acts as a fantastic interlude between the two parts. The zoo serves as an excellent setting for an expansion and is exceptionally well-crafted, with new enemy additions providing players with numerous new patterns to learn and attacks to evade.

While there is no confirmed release date for Lies of P: Overture yet, all this favorable feedback has us eager for its launch. Are you excited for the DLC? What are your thoughts on new features like difficulty options? Share your opinions in the comments section below.
