If Robert Eggers’ assertions are accurate, the werewolf motion picture he is working on might indeed have Count Orlok appearing similar to the Count from Sesame Street. During a Q&A event at the Lincoln Center, the director of Nosferatu shared a bit more about what he has planned for his next encounter with one of cinema’s most legendary monsters, which could very well lead fans to scream with delight.

Spotted by a fan on Twitter, Eggers hinted, “It’s a medieval werewolf film. It’s also the darkest thing I’ve ever written, without a doubt.” Considering this is from the very person who transformed Bill Skarsgård into a character that could challenge Pennywise, we can’t help but question the credibility of his claim.

It has been challenging to uncover many specifics about Werwulf. What’s known thus far is that it takes place in the 16th century, and according to Eggers’ go-to cinematographer, Jarin Blaschke, will design a portrayal for the creature that has never been captured on screen. “I can’t reveal anything,” promised Blaschke. “But it’s something that hasn’t been attempted before, at least not in this manner. So [we’re] just going to experiment and see if it works.”

Regarding the script, Eggers has also recruited the skills of Icelandic poet Sjón, who co-wrote his haunting Viking tale, The Northman. This isn’t the only project they are collaborating on, as it was recently announced that Eggers is venturing into the more family-friendly realm with a much-anticipated sequel to Labyrinth. We can only hope both will feature Willem Dafoe, but just one could potentially showcase him dancing to David Bowie’s Magic Dance, which sounds so perfect it’s chilling.
