The original Dreamcast controller was considered cutting-edge when the console debuted in the late ’90s, yet by 2025, it will undoubtedly seem outdated to retro gaming enthusiasts. Fortunately, the Retro Fighters D6 wireless controller has recently launched, designed to provide Dreamcast fans with a more contemporary gamepad. It’s also compatible with the Dreamcast, Nintendo Switch, and PC, making it an excellent choice for enjoying classic hardware or playing ports of Dreamcast games, like the forthcoming releases of Power Stone 1 and 2 in the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 set to launch later this year.

Available in both black and white varieties, the Retro Fighters D6 Dreamcast wireless controller features a six-button layout and a D-pad with dedicated Kailh micro-switches. Furthermore, there are two customizable modes for the C and Z buttons, including a traditional Dreamcast mode. It also operates using 2.4 GHz wireless technology via a dongle that can easily be plugged into a Dreamcast or other compatible devices. This enhances its suitability for competitive titles on the Dreamcast, such as Street Fighter Alpha 3, Soul Calibur, and Marvel vs Capcom 2. The Retro Fighters D6 Dreamcast wireless controller is also compatible with PC and Nintendo Switch.

If you’re in the market for other modern-style gamepads that are excellent for playing vintage video games, the forthcoming 8Bitdo 64 Bluetooth controller is worth considering. This wireless controller is designed for those intending to purchase the new Nintendo 64 FPGA console, the Analogue 3D, but it will also be compatible with PC, Switch, and Android devices. The controller resembles the original N64 controller layout but includes several enhancements like anti-miss and the new Hall Effect sticks, a more modern ergonomic design, wireless Bluetooth connection, and support for 8BitDo’s desktop application that allows you to customize button configurations and much more.

The 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth controller is expected to launch at $40 on June 30 and will be available in black and white colors. However, it’s possible that the release date may shift, as the Analogue 3D console was recently postponed. Nevertheless, preorders for both colors are available on Amazon.
