Reflections on Eschatology Entertainment

Renowned designer and art director Viktor Antonov, celebrated for crafting the universes of Half-Life 2 and Dishonored, has sadly passed away.

Eschatology Entertainment, a studio co-founded by Antonov in 2022, announced the news on LinkedIn and lauded his impact on the gaming landscape.

“Today, our team grieves for a treasured colleague, a motivating friend, and an iconic visual director. One of the founders of Eschatology Entertainment, Viktor Antonov, passed away a week ago. We are still awaiting official documentation, but unfortunately, this is not a falsehood,” the studio expressed.

“The journey we embarked on with Viktor, the creativity he provided, and the universe we created together hold immense significance for us. We are thankful for the extraordinary experiences, the remarkable legacy we built collaboratively, and for his talent and vision—without which the very essence of our studio could not have been realized.”

According to his LinkedIn profile, Antonov joined Valve in 1999 and dedicated seven years to the company as art director. During his tenure, he contributed to significant projects such as Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life 2.

After leaving Valve in 2006, Antonov became part of Arkane Studios to oversee the visual direction of the Dishonored series. He subsequently transitioned to ZeniMax Media in 2011, taking on the position of visual design director and working on titles like Wolfenstein: The New Order, Doom, and Fallout 4.

Throughout his career, Antonov received several accolades from institutions such as BAFTA and The Visual Effects Society.
