We’re now fluent in banana
While the rest of us ordinary Nintendo enthusiasts have been engrossed in trailers for upcoming Switch 2 titles, reveling in the stunning visuals and exciting new characters, some individuals have been delving deeper.
Indeed, it seems that if anyone had truly been observant, they would have recognized that the Donkey Kong Bananza trailers thus far feature a concealed language — similar to the one uncovered in Tears of the Kingdom — which can be interpreted to unveil messages within the game.
According to the snippets of the hidden code provided by YouTuber 2Chrispy in his detailed video from last week, (kudos to Gamesradar), he possesses exceptionally keen observation abilities. How he managed to spot these is quite astonishing, but they certainly exist!
In the video (below, well worth viewing for an in-depth and amusing explanation), 2Chrispy recounts how he stumbled upon his initial sighting of the ape lingo in a scene. He then meticulously examined all available gameplay footage and cutscenes, collecting any symbols he could discover. He even had to jump onto the Nintendo Today! app to uncover additional symbols scattered throughout. Excellent work.
Then, a breakthrough occurred when he identified that an in-game item was officially named ‘Chip Exchange.’ From this, he discerned which banana letter represented an ‘E’ and gradually began to decode until he found that only five letters remain unidentified in the “Bananabet.”
This is quite an achievement, having initially needed to compile a list of terms that may or may not relate to the game. It was a task that could have easily derailed at the outset, yet 2Chrispy persevered and has provided us with the key to an entirely new dialect.
And what do the in-game communications convey? Is there anything significant to discuss? Well, you’ll need to check out the video or unravel it for yourself in July (it’s just around the corner!).
