Random: PaRappa The Rapper Creator Has Some Expectedly Trippy Hopes For Switch 2
If you had a PlayStation during the mid-’90s to early 2000s, you’re probably familiar with PaRappa the Rapper. This quirky rhythm adventure by musician Masaya Matsuura lets you embody a hip-hop canine striving to win over his beloved, a human-like flower (yes, you read that right). It’s frequently regarded as the game that pioneered the rhythm genre and, if our brief overview hasn’t hinted at it yet, it’s definitely peculiar.
The inquiry arises: why are we discussing this iconic PS1 title on a Nintendo platform? Stay with us, there’s a connection.
Our friends at our sister site Time Extension had the privilege of chatting with Matsuura-san to delve into everything PaRappa, game design, and music. Towards the conclusion of the interview, the discussion shifted towards Switch 2, and as one might anticipate from the architect of the rapping dog, Matsuura-san shared some rather psychedelic aspirations for the forthcoming console.
While the developer dismissed any speculation about returning to the field too soon (“I don’t have anything planned, so I suppose not”), he expressed intrigue when questioned about whether Switch 2 could lure him back: “I’m not captivated by the ‘switch’ itself. I am enamored by the shadows that are revealed when it illuminates”.
Whoa. Not your typical grounded reply. And that’s not all! Time Extension probed whether this indicated Matsuura-san is more focused on the process of creation rather than the instruments used, prompting a similarly unconventional response.
“That’s correct, but crafting without instruments is nearly impossible, so tools hold significance too,” Matsuura-san conveyed to Time Extension, “I desire a mental switch that ignites a new spark within me. I hope that Nintendo Switch 2 fulfills that”.
Wow. While we were anticipating Switch 2 to feature a solid 3D Mario title, the creator of PaRappa seems to seek something that sparks profound inspiration. No pressure, right Nintendo?
Of course, the “new spark” we’re all secretly wishing Matsuura-san experiences is a fresh PaRappa for Switch 2. It may seem improbable, we acknowledge, but with titles like Patapon, Everybody’s Golf, and Raidou already on the horizon, who knows if another PlayStation gem might join the lineup?
Make sure to visit Time Extension for the full interview with Matsuura-san. Additionally, if you’re curious about what other developers think about the Switch 2 announcement, we recently spoke to numerous creatives about their thoughts, development kits, and future intentions.
