A vibrant fantasy

Mario Kart World has merely been released for a month, but as anticipated, speedrunners are already striving to obliterate race track times in the game’s Time Trial mode, and a well-known competitor is already leading the pack on one specific track (thanks Polygon!).
Twitch broadcaster and Geometry Dash specialist Technical currently holds the world record in the latest version of Rainbow Road after dedicating over a hundred hours to mastering the course and executing tricks to achieve the fastest time.
In Time Trial mode, Rainbow Road consists of four sections, with each segment taking more than a minute on average for an average Mario Kart World player. However, Technical has successfully completed the full course in 3:39:987, and he’s presently in the lead.
The world record has fluctuated ever since the game’s launch, with the top position changing hands 34 times in the last month. Technical is the first individual to surpass the four-minute threshold, indicating that the competition is officially heated. Have a look below.
This shouldn’t be a major shock; Technical is also the world record holder for Mario Kart 8 and 8 Deluxe‘s Rainbow Road (on 200cc). So it’s fair to say he’s quite the authority on the multicolored course.
Many anticipated that reaching the sub-four minute mark would take significantly longer, yet numerous players have been perilously close to achieving that objective; however, a mix of track length and a late-race maneuver have proven challenging.
We’ll be monitoring this over the next months — and probably years. Could 3:55 be the upcoming milestone?
