
PUBG Reaches Unprecedented Profitability, Claims Creator
The creator of PUBG: Battlegrounds, Krafton, has declared it achieved record sales and revenue last year – marking its most successful year in the company’s history.
First introduced in 2017, the battle royale game PUBG transitioned to a free-to-play model in 2022 and has experienced ongoing growth since. 2024 witnessed the game reach its highest-ever concurrent player count – with 890,000 users.
Global spending on PUBG across PC and consoles last year totaled “almost” 1 trillion Korean won – approximately £556 million – breaking Krafton’s own record for the game.
On mobile devices, PUBG’s India-specific variant, Battlegrounds Mobile India, experienced a sales increase of 35.7 percent year-over-year.
Next on Krafton’s agenda is to establish a new significant franchise property, while also continuing to enhance PUBG and expand the game’s Indian mobile version.
The company is set to release inZoi, an aesthetically impressive Sims-inspired game, on March 28 via Steam early access, following a delay from last year. Could this become Krafton’s next major franchise?
Other upcoming projects include narrative extraction RPG Dark and Darker Mobile, the underwater survival sequel Subnautica 2, and the pioneering life simulation game Dinkum Together.
