Nintendo has launched a fresh update for its Game Boy and NES application on the Switch and Switch 2 today. Not only does it elevate the Game Boy app to Version 3.0.0, but it also advances the NES app to Version 8.0.0.

This update brings a noteworthy transformation. As numerous players have observed, the apps have been officially rebranded with the ‘Nintendo Classics’ label – discarding the previous “Switch Online” designation. These were the final two vintage Nintendo applications that had not been refreshed since the introduction of the Switch 2 (not counting Sega’s Mega Drive / Genesis collection).

As part of this rebranding, and similar to the updates for the other vintage applications, players have noticed several minor tweaks and enhancements. Possibly the most prominent change is that both applications now enable users to remap the buttons through the overlay menu while in-game.

You can discover what else has been added in today’s updates in our earlier reports. This includes the titles introduced to each application as well as a unique Easter Egg for the Game Boy app.
