ProbablyMonsters, the multi-studio organization founded by former Bungie CEO Harold Ryan, has seemingly executed another round of workforce reductions.

LinkedIn updates from various employees indicate that several positions were eliminated and suggest the cancellation of an unannounced initiative.

“Hello everyone. I’ve also been affected by the video game layoffs. I’m in search of a new position and would appreciate your assistance,” states one post from a senior technical systems lead at the studio.

A production director at ProbablyMonsters indicated that their current project at the studio was “terminated,” while a QA lead remarked that their team has “regrettably been laid off.”

ProbablyMonsters chose not to comment when contacted by Game Developer.

Last year, the company dismissed approximately 50 employees after scrapping a development project titled Fight Barge. An individual affected by those layoffs stated that was the third released project canceled by the company.

At that time, ProbablyMonsters indicated it was reorganizing its studio structure to support “smaller, more agile teams and projects.”

“We believe this structure better aligns with the demands of players and the market. […] Our thoughts are with everyone affected as we adapt to the new realities of the gaming industry as an independent entity,” mentioned a company spokesperson in October of last year.

Just a few months prior, the company enlisted Bungie veteran Chris Opdahl to head a new internal studio known as Hidden Grove.

ProbablyMonsters has secured over $450 million since its founding to create multiple studios and establish a “more stable environment for developers.” One of those studios was Harmony developer Firewalk, which was acquired by Sony in 2023 and unexpectedly closed last year.
