Pro Skaters Rally for Tony Hawk Remaster Despite Activision’s Silence
A skilled skateboarder has asserted he’ll be featured in an upcoming remastered Tony Hawk video game.
Professional skater Tyshawn Jones made this remark during a conversation on the Breakfast Club podcast, stating: “I’m part of a new Tony Hawk coming out, that’s pretty cool… They are remastering a new one so it’s about to be released, I was in the previous one.”
For reference, Jones was among the new playable pro skaters introduced in the remastered Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, which launched in 2020.
However, while Jones is evidently enthusiastic about this upcoming Tony Hawk remaster (could it possibly be a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4?), it’s important to highlight that nothing has been officially confirmed as being in development by Activision. That’s not to suggest there hasn’t been plenty of Tony Hawk-related discussions, though.
Reportedly, plans to give Pro Skater 3 and 4 the remake treatment were abandoned after Activision decided to merge developer Vicarious Visions into Blizzard in 2021. Nevertheless, that seemingly wasn’t the end of the discussion, and in September of last year, Tony Hawk himself offered a glimmer of hope that something was indeed in the works.
More significantly, Hawk revealed he had been “in communication with Activision again” last September, and emphasized that these discussions had been “insanely exciting” and that he was “collaborating on something” with the studio.
A bit later that same month, Hawk made an appearance on Instagram celebrating the 25th anniversary of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. And how did he conclude everything? Well, in this way:
“I’m not allowed to hint at anything further about the future of the series, but there will be a future.”
