X-treme
Hello everyone, we’re back with another installment of Box Art Brawl!
First off, let’s reflect on what occurred previously… Ah, yes, we examined Mario Party 3 for the N64! It was a landslide victory, with Japan’s version securing 84% of the total votes. North America gathered 13%, while Europe trailed far behind with just 3%.
This week, we remain on the N64 platform with F-Zero X. Initially, we thought about featuring F-Zero GX, but those covers are nearly identical worldwide. Therefore, we’re focusing on X. Released in 1998, this game is now playable on Switch for those with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, and it’s truly an exceptional title.
The distinctions between North America and Europe are so slight for this game that we’re grouping them together to face off against Japan. Let’s dive in!
Don’t forget to submit your votes in the poll below; but first, let’s review the box art designs.
North America / Europe
The Western cover for F-Zero X is straightforward, striking, and memorable. It effectively showcases the logo at the top, with racers below, enhanced by a dynamic blur effect to suggest speed (which F-Zero certainly possesses). The tagline at the bottom reads, “A high-speed race across the galaxy!” and we adore the vibrant colors used in this artwork. Fantastic!
Japan
The Japanese design incorporates the Western artwork prominently in the center but adds much more detail. Characters are featured prominently at the top, with the logo repositioned at the bottom. Lightning bolts adorn the upper section, and the elaborate use of color permeates the entire design.
Thank you for participating in the voting! We’ll catch you next time for yet another round of Box Art Brawl.
