The moment has finally arrived as Pokemon Legends: Z-A has launched after what seems like an eternity, presenting an abundance of novel attributes – including the fresh Mega Evolutions, of which some in particular have captured enthusiasts’ attention.

One such Pokemon is Mega Starmie, and it’s all due to the so-called “Mysterious Pokemon” possessing some… erm, distinct legs. It distinguishes itself from the other Pokemon in the Pokemon Legends: Z-A Pokedex with its clumsy starfish-like form and human-like running style – and players are fascinated, from the US and far beyond. As pointed out by Automaton, fans in Japan are particularly enjoying the design.

An individual commented in an online post highlighting the Mega Starmie’s movements, “My friend revealed the new Mega Starmie to me, and I’m dying from laughter.” Another discussion features someone comparing the Pokemon to the demons Decarabia and Kaiwan from Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. It hasn’t been met with different reactions outside of Japan either, with fans everywhere affectionately ridiculing Mega Starmie’s amusing design – just take a look at all the SpongeBob parodies.

“MEGA STARMIE I–,” exclaims one player, linking a screenshot of Mega Starmie alongside Patrick Star… and, erm, yes, they share a resemblance. A commenter below states, “I can’t believe this is authentic lol.” In another instance, another user points out how they “appreciate” how the developers “didn’t change much except give him more human traits and [make him] dash around like a maniac” with a hilarious video added. The memes seem boundless, truly.

As one of my favorite comments regarding the design expresses, “Mega Starmie, why are you striking the Starman pose?” The individual is alluding to the Starmen from EarthBound, and they’re spot on with the analogy, if I may add. What other comparisons will people make regarding the leggy new Mega Evolution? I find it amusing that Mega Starmie is actually real – and genuinely looks the way it does.

She has contributed to numerous publications since completing her postgraduate education, including Dexerto, Fanbyte, GameSpot, IGN, PCGamesN, and more. When she’s not hastily attempting to transform thoughts into coherent sentences, she’s likely daydreaming about becoming a fairy druid and befriending every animal or she’s investing countless (more) hours exploring the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you find her away from her computer, you can always spot Anna with a fantasy novel, some handheld gaming device, and a Tamagotchi or two in her possession.
