PlayStation Users Voice Frustration Over Downtime Compensation Policy Amidst PSN Outages
PlayStation users affected by this weekend’s significant PSN disruption have criticized Sony’s apology, especially due to the lack of explanation regarding the incident.
The recent episode of PSN unavailability lasted approximately 24 hours, starting early Friday evening here in the UK. Upon the service’s return, Sony issued an apology attributing the issue to a vague “operational problem.”
The compensation for the outage equates to an extra five days for individuals with a PS Plus membership, while those without access were left without any form of restitution despite being unable to enjoy their digital games.
Not every online game necessitates a PS Plus subscription, of course—especially popular free-to-play titles like Fortnite and Roblox—access to which was similarly restricted.
“Everything was down,” wrote one affected user on ResetEra. “Users who share games (like myself) were denied access to their entire digital collection, even offline titles. You didn’t need PS Plus to be impacted.”
“I don’t have PS Plus, yet I still couldn’t access the games I wished to play,” expressed another affected user on Reddit. “Looks like I’m a f***ing second-class citizen.”
Eurogamer has reached out to Sony to inquire whether the company intends to provide an alternative form of compensation and to seek further clarity regarding the cause of this weekend’s disruption.
