PlayStation platformer Astro Bot dominates 2025 BAFTA Games Awards

Astro Bot achieved remarkable success at the 2025 BAFTA Video Game Awards, winning five prizes.

The prestigious 3D platformer from Sony and Team Asobi was awarded Game of the Year during last night’s ceremony in London. Additionally, it won accolades for Animation, Audio Achievement, Family Game, and Game Design.

Throughout awards season, the title has consistently excelled, clinching significant wins at the New York Game Awards, The Game Awards, DICE Awards, and GDCAs.

This latest victory comes just weeks after Nicolas Doucet, the studio director of Team Asobi, praised the merits of crafting a “small game” during GDC 2025.

“Many of the choices we made with Astro Bot could be considered double-A or perhaps lacking in ambition—like the size of the team, the scope of the game, the absence of text, no voice acting, and its non-open-world format,” he stated during a presentation at the conference in March.

“But that doesn’t truly matter. We still created a game that brought joy to many, and it was likely the simplicity that allowed numerous players to engage with it.”

Other winners at the BAFTAs included the humorous platformer Thank Goodness You’re Here!, which secured the British Game award.

Localthunk’s highly popular deck-building roguelike Balatro emerged victorious in the Debut Game category, while Arrowhead Game Studios’ frenetic cooperative shooter Helldivers 2 won the Multiplayer and Music awards.
