Physical ‘Switch 2 Editions’ Confirmed To Have Everything On The Game Card, Says Nintendo
Update #3 []: We have finally received a response from Nintendo UK, accompanied by the following declaration, akin to the one that Vooks obtained:
“Physical editions of Nintendo Switch 2 games will encompass the original Nintendo Switch game along with its upgrade pack on a single game card. On the other hand, certain publishers might opt to distribute Nintendo Switch 2 games as download vouchers within physical packaging, devoid of a game card.”
Thus, while it appears that publishers can choose to include an upgrade code in the box, Nintendo assures us that all first-party titles will be provided on the cartridge. Phew!
Update #2 []: We are still anticipating a response from Nintendo, but Vooks in Australia received feedback from a Nintendo representative stating that NS2 Ed. releases “are strictly Nintendo Switch 2 game cards, without any download code” – which thankfully clears up any uncertainty, at least regarding Nintendo’s own titles.
We will provide further updates once we hear back from our sources.
Original Story: Earlier this week, Nintendo announced that select games from the Switch era would be receiving ‘Switch 2 Edition’ launches.
A Nintendo customer support rep also disclosed details regarding the actual content in the physical versions – indicating that the Switch 2 Edition upgrade packs would consist of “download codes”.
Nintendo UK Customer Support team: “Yes, we can confirm that the upgrades will be download codes.”
According to a representative from Nintendo UK, physical versions of games like Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Metroid Prime 4 include a download code for the upgrade pack along with a Switch 1 version cartridge of the game https://t.co/SK5uo4Thyf pic.twitter.com/vRhUnxTvIX— Wario64 (@Wario64)
It’s worth noting that customer service reps might not always be completely informed on all specifics, so an official clarification directly from Nintendo could be prudent. In fact, another customer support response appeared to give a different answer – asserting that upgrades are indeed included on the cartridge. We have reached out to Nintendo for clarification and will update accordingly.
The box art for the ‘Switch 2 Edition’ currently circulating prominently displays fine print like “Includes the Nintendo Switch game and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack”.
Although this might be subjective to interpretation, Nintendo also mentions on its site that “upgrade packs” are available as downloads.
Some of the Switch 2 Editions revealed thus far consist of titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
If we receive any notable updates, we will inform you. What are your thoughts on this? Share with us in the comments.
