Fantastic Four’s trailer recently provided us with an initial look at Marvel’s First Family, featuring Pedro Pascal stepping into the role of the new Mr. Fantastic. During the trailer release earlier today, the actor shared his thoughts about joining the MCU and offered some intriguing insights into the retro white-and-blue jumpsuits.
Pascal confessed to Good Morning America that it was “humbling” to portray this legendary character, commenting on the film’s style choices: “The suit was very well-suited for all of us and had a bit of a retro GoGo [vibe]. And I believe we carried it off.”
As The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set in the ’60s, it’s completely reasonable for the costumes to draw inspiration from the era’s GoGo aesthetic, although it’s also quite a bold choice for a superhero outfit.
In the initial footage from the film, we see Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm sporting slightly varied versions of the same attire — a blue jumpsuit paired with white boots, a belt, and gloves, featuring the iconic 4 on the chest.
Previous adaptations in the comics leaned toward a more serious black-and-blue suit, but it appears the new film follows closer to the 1994 unreleased Fantastic Four movie.
This latest MCU installment is heralding the start of Marvel Phase 6 this summer, and we are certain that it will be filled with even more surprises than just striking costume choices. The Easter eggs in the Fantastic Four trailer are already hinting at what’s to come, while fans still appear to be divided about The Thing’s initial appearance.
Fantastic Four is set to hit theaters on July 25. While we wait, check out our guides for all the upcoming Marvel films and shows on the horizon, as well as our breakdown of how to watch the Marvel films in order.
