The latest Death Stranding 2: The extensive news reveal from the intense 10-minute trailer released last week has me completely engaged in Hideo Kojima madness at this moment.
Fortunately, the Steam Spring Sale is here to help (along with a fierce desire to empty my wallet). Metal Gear Solid: The Master Collection is currently 30% off, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Definitive Experience is down by 40%, and the original Death Stranding: Director’s Cut is now 50% off, so there’s plenty of Kojima content available.
However, it’s likely that you already own Metal Gear and Death Stranding, and those titles are already priced in the double digits even with the discount, which we know are rookie numbers. Nonetheless, one of Kojima’s most underrated gems (which he produced) is currently on sale for just $5.99 / £4.99 / AU$8.59, and that title is Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner Mars.
The original Zone of the Enders gained fame for being bundled with the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo, which significantly boosted its sales, making it a success in its own right, but the sequel did not achieve similar results. However, what it lacked in sales, it compensated for by being a vastly superior game compared to the first. Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner is a classic mech action game that discarded the elements that didn’t work in the original, focusing instead on intense action.
The Mars version of Zone of the Enders 2 has been upgraded for 4K resolutions and includes new features such as ‘Pro Mode’ and ‘Very Easy Mode,’ but most importantly, it added a VR mode, enabling you to experience epic mech battles in virtual reality. Although, with how chaotic the game becomes in later levels, you might want to have some painkillers handy for the inevitable neck soreness and headaches.
If that isn’t enough for you, there are over 50 Steam titlesgoing for under $5 during the Steam Spring Sale, including titles like Doom 2016 and Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition.
