Ninjas on alert
Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has expressed that the company will “implement all possible actions” to combat scalpers and resellers from affecting the upcoming Switch 2 launch.
In a discussion with media as Nintendo unveiled its latest financial report, Furukawa was asked how the company plans to prepare adequately for the Switch 2 release considering its predecessor’s challenges with stock shortages and reselling issues.
Furukawa simply remarked (through Nikkei, translated by VGC):
“We are ready to take every potential measure based on the experiences we have accumulated up to this point (regarding scalpers and similar issues). We are making our plans.”
Indeed, at the conclusion of 2024, DFC Intelligence projected that Nintendo would sell between 15-17 million units in 2025, provided that Nintendo can produce enough units to meet demand. Given the lengthy wait we have had to endure, we can assume Nintendo is quite aware of the public interest and will try to satisfy it accordingly.
After much eagerness, the Switch 2 was officially revealed on 16th January 2025 with a debut trailer, highlighting a console that appears to be a significant upgrade from the original Switch, while also confirming a new Mario Kart is in development.
The company will host a Nintendo Direct focused on the Switch 2 on 2nd April, followed by a global hands-on event in April and May as well.
Do you believe we are in for a relatively smoother launch with the Switch 2, or will scalpers once again disrupt the fun? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
