During the most recent financial update, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa discussed the methods Nintendo cultivates connections with its audience. As part of this, he disclosed some revised statistics regarding the player counts within the company’s ecosystem as of 30th September 2025.
Presently, there are 400 million Nintendo Accounts, and regarding active Switch Online memberships, there are 34 million users. Nintendo also highlights that there are 128 million “annual playing users”, further emphasizing:
“The tally of annual playing users denotes the quantity of Nintendo Accounts, from all Nintendo Accounts connected to a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 system, that utilized Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 software at least once during the 12-month data collection period. The count excludes the use of services like Nintendo eShop. Previous usage data is gathered when hardware links to the internet, so the findings are updated retrospectively.”
Nintendo asserts it will keep extending its entertainment to an “ever-broadening audience”. In the same briefing, the president pointed out how the company is branching out beyond dedicated gaming platforms with films, videos, character merchandise, mobile applications, and tangible experiences such as the Nintendo Museum, theme parks, and annual Live events.
No particular updates were provided related to this data regarding future strategies for Switch Online content or the Nintendo Classics library ahead, but the company has been consistently enhancing this subscription service with classic games, additional perks, and even unique apps. Next year, it plans to strengthen the service with the Virtual Boy library.
Nintendo Accounts and the Switch Online service also offer users the ability to participate in online gameplay and other features like GameChat. You can observe all of this in the video above.
