Nintendo has seemingly instructed its worldwide suppliers to generate as many as 25 million Switch 2 console units by the end of March 2026, Bloomberg reports (paywalled).

If the Big N succeeds in doing this, the company will be well positioned to fulfill the demands of what is anticipated to be a record-breaking initial year of sales for the new console.

According to Bloomberg, “individuals knowledgeable about the situation” indicate that Nintendo has requested an escalation in production to maximize potential sales over the holiday season as Switch 2 continues to exceed expectations.

Analysts were already estimating it will sell 17.6 million units by the conclusion of March 2026, so with these production numbers, that estimate appears likely to be easily exceeded, reaching at least 20 million, according to shipping forecasts from its assembly affiliates.

Bloomberg Intelligence industry analyst Nathan Naidu states that this “reinforces our perspective that its 15 million unit-sales goal is conservative, and an update to guidance seems imminent.”

“The console sold 5.8 million units globally in its first month compared to the original Switch’s 2.7 million launch sales,” he adds, though still perceives there are risks regarding US tariffs, and that Nintendo “might need to follow Microsoft and Sony in increasing US prices of its consoles.”

Nonetheless, with Nintendo appearing poised to exceed industry sales forecasts (and surpassing its own modest predictions) for Switch 2 in its initial year, and even with controversies around screen quality, Game-Key cards, and the overall economic climate not impacting sales in the feared manner, it appears they are eager to capitalize on their advantage while the moment is favorable for the console.

Indeed, as highlighted by Bloomberg, it indicates a company in full momentum, striving tirelessly to secure triumph for their flagship device. Sales are already trending 77% ahead of the original Switch’s launch in the US (according to Circana), illustrating that Nintendo is intent on leveraging the widespread enthusiasm surrounding the console.

Over the past year, Nintendo’s overall shares have also increased by 50%; and, at the time of writing, its Tokyo-traded shares have actually climbed by an additional 2.6%.

Thus, with a projected 68% increase in annual revenue anticipated to be announced next month; conditions are indeed looking bright for Mario and his companions at this moment.
