Conduct yourselves properly
Nintendo has revised its privacy policy to announce that it might capture video and audio during GameChat interactions on Switch 2.
As highlighted by Nintendo Soup, this adjustment by Nintendo aims to “ensure a safe and secure atmosphere for some of our services”. The privacy policy also specifies that users must grant permission before Nintendo undertakes this action.
The current privacy policy reads:
“Our offerings may enable you to generate, upload, or distribute content such as text, images, audio, video, your nickname, and profile icon, or other material you create or hold a license for. With your approval, and to uphold our regulations, we may also supervise and capture your video and audio exchanges with other users.”
Moreover, here’s additional context explaining the reason behind the modification:
“We clarified that we may gather, oversee, and record audio and video from your chat interactions with other users to foster a safe and secure environment for specific services.”
This makes sense from a safety standpoint. Nintendo has already enforced stringent measures to restrict GameChat to verified users. Initially, you must add an individual to your friend list, then manually authorize them for GameChat. So, you won’t be encountering total strangers in your GameChat sessions; however, an extra layer of safety is always welcome.
Additionally, it’s been established that minors aged 15 or younger will require approval through the Switch Parental Controls app before accessing the GameChat feature.
