Hollow Knight: Silksong enthusiasts – come closer, take a seat, and immerse yourself in the endless stream of information that developer Team Cherry continues to provide, sometimes inadvertently. A noteworthy interview from 2018 reveals that the developer has been friendly with Nintendo for quite some time, sharing more recent information regarding their collaborative effort on the upcoming console, the Switch 2.

“Nintendo has been incredibly supportive of us and the game,” co-director Ari Gibson told Source Gaming at BitSummit 2018, a couple of months prior to the official release of Hollow Knight on the Switch. “So that’s evidently been a very delightful experience.”

“It looks really great on the Switch and it’s a pleasure to play,” remarked co-director William Pellen.

Hollow Knight ultimately sold as many Switch copies as there are seeds in a strawberry, with Team Cherry achieving 250,000 units sold in just two weeks. In the aforementioned interview, the developers seemed to have been pleasantly prepared for such an outcome, with Gibson stating that the port was “very close” to completion at that time, “and we’re very confident in that version. We believe it’s really impressive.”

This sentiment – a mix of hopeful optimism – has grown increasingly familiar to gamers anticipating the arrival of the Hollow Knight sequel, Silksong, which has mostly remained hidden due to its indefinite delay. The updates released by Team Cherry or its publishers are often frustratingly vague for fans, although Nintendo seems eager to support the Metroidvania series once again.

After Nintendo vaguely hinted that Silksong would likely be available on the Switch 2 during the console’s dedicated Instruction stream, Silksong’s marketer Matthew Griffin has now officially confirmed that the game will launch on both the original Switch and the Switch 2. Team Cherry and Nintendo will remain close allies indefinitely.

New Hollow Knight: Silksong screenshots reveal just how much Team Cherry’s Metroidvania has evolved over 6 years, intensifying the wait.
