Mario & Wario, Bubsy and Fatal Fury Special!
Nintendo has unveiled a fresh set of Switch Online SNES titles, and for October, three new games have been introduced.
Following the launch of his Purrfect Collection in September, Bubsy makes a comeback with Accolade’s classic 1993 Super Nintendo side-scroller. In addition, we’re also seeing the release of the 1994/95 SNK combat game Fatal Fury Special. This follows the introduction of Fatal Fury 2 to the service in January.
Last but not least, we have Game Freak’s Mario & Wario. This puzzle-platforming game, developed by the Pokémon creators, first launched on the Super Famicom in 1993, and this time marks its initial availability outside of Japan. A little twist is that you’ll need to utilize your Joy-Con 2 to enjoy this game (or a USB mouse on the Switch).
Here’s the official Nintendo description for each title, along with several screenshots:
Mario & Wario
Exciting puzzles abound in this title that was launched exclusively in Japan for the Super Famicom™ system in 1993. Wario has dropped a bucket on poor Mario’s noggin, leaving him unable to see! It’s your responsibility to guide Mario safely to Luigi. Maneuver the forest fairy’s magic wand to create platforms, adjust the path Mario walks, and defeat foes. You can complete a total of 100 screens filled with unique obstacles using straightforward controls—just move the mouse to guide the fairy and click the left button once to execute actions.
BUBSY™ in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind
Bubsy the bobcat is on a quest to retrieve his snatched yarn! Step into the paws of the fierce feline in this action adventure released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System™ in 1993. Bubsy’s epic journey kicks off when his beloved yarn is pilfered by a race of yarn-addicted aliens, the Woolies. Saunter through a total of 16 stages, each averaging 300 screens, brimming with zany enemies and quirky mechanics. Zoom through every nook and cranny of these expansive stages as you hunt for scattered yarn balls and head for the finish line.
FATAL FURY SPECIAL
Put 15 unique fighters against each other! This fighting game, released for the Super NES™ console in 1995, features the original eight fighters from FATAL FURY 2, alongside three new faces (Billy Kane, Axel Hawk, and Laurence Blood) and a new boss character (Wolfgang Krauser). In addition, three fighters from the original FATAL FURY (Tung Fu Rue, Duck King, and Geese Howard) have returned for the action. By enhancing the appeal from the prior game with its two-line battles, special moves, and powerful finishers, and by further refining the series’ gameplay, this title truly deserves the “SPECIAL” label. Moreover, if you fulfill certain unique requirements, Ryo Sakazaki from the ART OF FIGHTING series will make a special guest appearance, which is notable on its own!
The identical trio of titles has also launched on the Super Famicom – Nintendo Classics service in Japan this month. Mouse compatibility for the SNES digital collection was introduced alongside the Mario Paint launch in July. Nintendo has provided this control method for other titles on the service as well.
