Recently, some new details regarding Nintendo’s intentions for the launch of the Switch 2 were disclosed during the company’s latest earnings presentation, with president Shuntaro Furukawa indicating that Nintendo is preparing for significant demand for the new console. The executive also discussed Nintendo’s pricing strategy for the Switch 2 and confirmed that there are no immediate plans for a price reduction on the existing Switch model.
While responding to inquiries from shareholders about the launch, Furukawa revealed that Nintendo anticipates a strong demand for the upcoming console. “At present, we are taking the risk and continuing with production to satisfy as much demand as possible,” Furukawa stated, further noting that Nintendo might assess the initial demand for the console based on the feedback from its April 4 Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, in addition to the reactions received during its hands-on Switch 2 Experience events.
Nintendo is also preparing in case it needs to quickly ramp up production of the consoles, similar to the situation encountered when the original Nintendo Switch faced supply challenges in 2020. “As was the case with the Nintendo Switch, we believe it won’t be easy to swiftly increase production capacity,” Furukawa remarked. “So, based on our previous experience, we are making preparations to respond as promptly as possible.”
