Nintendo has expressed its views regarding the usage of AI, assuring that its games will always retain “a human aspect.”

Nintendo’s Switch 2 marketing campaign is currently in full swing, and along with its recent announcement that provided an overview of upcoming titles for the system as well as confirming a launch date and retail price, Nintendo has also been conducting various interviews.

While these interviews have largely addressed topics like game pricing and the recently introduced Trump tariffs, Nintendo of America‘s president Doug Bowser has provided further insights regarding his, and the company’s broader, opinions on AI.

“When we consider technology in general, we always aim to ensure that any technology we utilize—whether for game development or in our devices—enhances the gameplay experience,” Bowser stated during a conversation with CNBC.

“That’s where it begins… this is a crucial aspect of our decision-making process regarding the integration of AI.”

Bowser noted that AI is presently a favored tool not just for game creation, but can also be utilized to “boost productivity” and beyond. Nonetheless, even though this technology may have its benefits, Bowser and Nintendo acknowledge “it’s not the sole approach to creating games.”

Bowser asserted: “We firmly believe that what makes our games unique is our developers, their creative talents, and their understanding of how players engage. Thus, there will always, always be a human touch and human involvement in how we design and construct our games.”

As Bowser mentioned, AI remains a trending topic and many game developers have explored the technology. Earlier this year, Microsoft promoted the launch of Muse, a new “generative AI advancement” intended to aid “gameplay ideation.” Additionally, in February, Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick shared his perspective on AI, describing artificial intelligence as “an oxymoron.”

This year, Activision faced criticism for its utilization of generative AI, acknowledging that certain in-game content in Call of Duty was created using this technology. Meanwhile, just last week, Microsoft produced a demo inspired by Quake 2 with its new AI tool, but it is nearly unplayable.

As for the Switch 2, Nintendo is expected to host a Presentation focused on March.
