Awaiting shareholder endorsement
Nintendo has revealed that it will appoint a new external director to the firm who will also assume a position on the board.
Subject to endorsement on 27th June 2025 during the annual shareholder gathering, Kazuhiko Hachiya will join Nintendo’s board of directors, with immediate effect upon approval.
You may be unfamiliar with Hachiya, yet he currently holds the position of director at a doll manufacturing company in Tokyo, Japan known as PetWORKs. He has been in this role since September 2010 and has served as a representative director since January 1998.
In addition, he is a significant figure in the fine arts community, acting as the director of the Art Media Center at Tokyo University of the Arts and also teaching within the Department of Intermedia Art.
While there’s no apparent or immediate connection between Hachiya and Nintendo, we suspect there might be some shared interest in either PetWORKs or Hachiya’s art expertise. According to his YouTube channel, he has a passion for aviation, leading one to wonder if we might witness his influence in franchises like Star Fox or Pilotwings..?
Additionally, he has shared several videos on his channel where he employs VR technology to engage with adorable teddy bears in a cozy setting; somewhat reminiscent of Animal Crossing. This technology appears to stem from an older ‘PostPet’ concept created in partnership with Sony back in 1997, where characters served as email mascots, loosely inspired by Tamagotchi. Regardless, Hachiya’s interests and background in the doll sector align well with Nintendo, making this a seemingly natural matchup.
It is unlikely we will see Hachiya’s impact on Nintendo anytime soon, but it will be intriguing to watch how he could potentially influence the company in the future.
