If you just binged the follow-up Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix, keep your controller within reach. The streamer has dropped the companion arcade title Happy Gilmore: Golf Mayhem ’98 Demo at no extra cost for every subscriber.
The throwback, crafted by Amber, runs right on televisions and computers. Netflix calls the experience a love-letter to late-’90s arcades: chaotic golf meets combat-game flourishes à la Mortal Kombat. Swing clubs, trade blows with well-known faces, and level cartoon fairways in a quick burst of gameplay stuffed with callbacks for dedicated viewers.
Although the action unfolds during the original Happy Gilmore outing, its existence winks at the sequel’s opening scene where Happy has evolved into a pixelated sports icon reminiscent of Tony Hawk.
Separately, Netflix hooked up with Spotify for the Happy Gilmore 2 Tournament—an in-app interactive set in the Spotify platform. Tee off via movie-inspired golf trials, unlock vintage soundbites, unearth secrets, and rock out to a bespoke soundtrack while you play.
After tripling its catalogue past the 100-game mark within three years, Netflix has shifted from purely mobile targets toward web- and living-room-friendly releases. While ongoing projects still spring from flagship properties such as Squid Game: Unleashed, Black Mirror: Thronglets, and Blood Line: A Rebel Moon Game, the company’s latest pipeline skimps on indie acquisitions and leans deeper into titles synchronized with its own originals.
