Gamers have criticized NetEase for a perceived inadequacy in moderation within Marvel Rival lobbies.

“Forget about loser queue, I want to escape the racist queue,” wrote redditor Murkwan on the official Marvel Rivals subreddit. The post has since been locked and removed, but not before amassing 1400 likes and nearly 500 comments, most of which supported the original poster.

While many players seem to face harassment simply for playing specific characters (notably Jeff the Landshark), others claim they often hear racist and sexist remarks, yet “haven’t received a ban notification in weeks” even after reporting offending players (thanks, TheGamer).

“The issue is that this takes a toll on you,” noted one player, in response to a suggestion that players could simply “mute, report, block” and move on.

“As a woman, I do not use my mic unless I’m with friends. If I talk with random teammates, I will invariably receive some insult or vile comment. Black gamers also contributed to the discussion, with many acknowledging that they keep communication off with random players, even during ranked matches.

A number of gamers have taken to X/Twitter, with one commenter stating: “Seriously?? MarvelRivals, where’s the moderation??” asked one player, who shared a screenshot of a highly offensive antisemitic username. “I’m a big fan of the game but encountering this mid-game is disgusting.”

“It’s even worse because I can’t leave the match without facing penalties, which ruins my own gameplay experience, so I just have to play alongside this person,” they added.

“When you consider it, it’s even stranger when it’s in a Marvel game,” remarked u/fistfightcrash.

“Stan Lee was quite clear that what the X-Men were originally about was the civil rights movement. Here’s a quote from Stan Lee from the 60s:

‘Let’s lay it flat on the line. Bigotry and racism are among the most critical social ills afflicting the world today. It is entirely irrational, patently insane to condemn an entire race.’

“If you’re racist, how could you possibly believe this is your space?” they concluded. “Unless you’re really old, M
