Update: Gen 9 edition verified for Switch 2

Update #2 []: The official NBA 2K26 webpage has refreshed its FAQ section, confirming that “Generation 9” will also be arriving on Nintendo Switch 2.

“Gen 9 versions of NBA 2K26 will be accessible on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam for PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.”

Update #1 []: Publisher 2K has verified that NBA 2K26 will debut on 5th September across all platforms, which includes Switch 1.

The Switch 2 Standard Edition will be available for $69.99, while the Switch 1 variant will be priced at $59.99.

The announcement for Visual Concepts’ game was released alongside a Spike Lee-narrated trailer (above) and information on four game versions available on non-Nintendo platforms (it appears we’re only getting the standard version), including two offering a week’s early access priced at $100 and $150.

Particularly for Switch users, the announcement includes the phrase “NBA 2K26 Brings Gen 9 Gameplay, Modes, and Features to Nintendo Switch 2,” although an FAQ on the official webpage mentions that “Gen 9 versions of NBA 2K26 will be available on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam for PC.”

We have contacted the publisher for clarification on whether the Switch 2 version will feature full feature parity with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and details about the physical release.

Original Story: [Wed 9th Jul, 2025 15:40 BST]:

Building off the recent update that WWE 2K25 would be making its way to the Switch 2, 2K has now confirmed that the latest basketball installment NBA 2K26 will also see a release on Nintendo’s new hybrid platform.

It is set to launch “this Fall” – with Nintendo also validating this information on its own social media channels earlier today. The cover athlete is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander from Oklahoma City Thunder, and pre-orders for the title will start this week.

2K initially declared it would be bringing the NBA 2K series to the Switch 2 during the first showcase for Nintendo’s newly launched platform. WWE 2K25 will be the first to arrive, scheduled for launch on 23rd July 2025, following other titles from 2K such as Civilization VII. Borderlands 4 is also in development.

When we gather more details about this anticipated Switch 2 release, we will inform you.
