Mouthwash Sales Surge Past 500K Units, Outpacing Upcoming Console Releases
Reveal through Disturbing Organ/Intense Reflex.
Disturbing Organ’s Mouthwashing has sold over 500,000 copies since its launch in September 2024 on Steam.
The developer described the achievement as “more surreal than any bizarre psychosis,” and expressed their appreciation towards gamers. Upon release, the psychological horror game received critical acclaim, and became nominated or won several end-of-year accolades, including Best Hidden Gem at the New York Game Awards.
“Everyone, you truly are amazing and we’re incredibly thankful to you for joining us on this challenging journey,” wrote Disturbing Organ. “We love and appreciate each and every one of you and we hope to gather again when we reach 999,000 sales.”
The game was one of numerous indie successes throughout 2024: alongside Balatro’s previously celebrated performance, other gems such as Content Warning, Pacific Drive, and Manor Lords have all sold millions since their respective launches. Older indie titles like Stardew Valley and Phasmophobia also achieved impressive sales milestones.
Mouthwashing is set to “reach new heights” with its upcoming ports for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch in both digital and physical editions anticipated for release in late 2025.
